becoming a digital student

Good Evening all!

The first week back to school was this week. This semester is going to be a little different. I am going to be a digital student. I’ve taken a couple of online classes before but not three at the same time. This might not be a big deal to a lot of you, which is great, but for me it’s new.

I’m taking Environmental Science, Intro to Economics, and another Anthropology class. I’m still waiting on one of my books to arrive. I ordered all of my books from Amazon for this semester. It was a lot cheaper than going to the bookstore at school. I normally don’t think about ordering ahead, but I made it a goal to get ready early.

Why did I take online classes for this semester? Well…….because I don’t like the freezing cold to be honest. My school is downtown so parking is scattered into different areas around the school. So I thought I’d be smart and avoid the cold  and being miserable. Another reason is for practice. One of my goals is to work for myself and anywhere I want. So I thought this would be a perfect time to practice.

I’ll admit, online classes are not easy. It’s easy to get stuck on one class for the entire week and get behind on the other classes. It’s very easy to study all day and not get anything else done. This week has flown by and I feel like all I’ve been doing is sitting at the desk. Even though  I’m trying to figure it all out, I wanted to share what I have figured out for those that are in the same boat.

I thought I’d just go with the flow, but that just fell apart. It’s only the second week and I already feel like I’m behind. So creating an actual schedule is key. Not only that, but to spread everything out (like not studying one class for three days). Another thing to schedule in is “me time”. This is super important. I know myself- I will get burnt out QUICK if I don’t take time for me. This morning was awesome. I was off of work, so when Thomas left for work, I got up to do some yoga. I love Yoga with Adrien on YouTube. I highly recommend her. After that, I put some layers on and went on a walk.

It was lovely and much needed. I have been getting cabin fever a lot this winter.

Another thing I’m doing is getting dressed for the day like I would if I were actually going out. This is no time to be lazy. Being dressed helps me feel like I can accomplish things.

Taking frequent breaks will help me accomplish other areas in my life. I need those breaks to not get burnt out for the day and to give my mind a rest. This is the time to clean or do other chores. Or even to blast some music and sing along! Kelly Clarkson anyone?? I’ll even take a yoga break.

This past week I’ve been stopping school stuff when Thomas gets home from work (5pm). That’s my time to cook dinner, and relax. I’ve decided that I’m going to switch it up a bit and make this a little more productive. This will be the time that I’ll work on any side projects that will help me and my little family in the future.

I’m tired of not feeling like I never have enough hours in the day. So I’m going to take action! It’s time to make it all come true! Can I get a, “Hell Yeah!”?!

So fellow students: do you have any tips for taking online classes? I’d love to hear them.
